Crystal Characterization

Crystal Characterization

All crystal growth processes are incomplete without careful characterization and evaluation of each crystal for defects. Depending on the application, critical defects can include: dislocations, inclusions, bubbles, impurities, growth striations, color centers and facets.

Each material has particular defects which are critical to the intended application. Methods to characterize the crystal with respect to certain defect types and to correlate those defects with particular growth conditions are critical to the success of any crystal growth process.
